How to Wear a Dress with a Built-In Scarf

A dress with a built-in scarf is exactly what it sounds like: a long dress with the scarf sewn to the neckline. There are no pins, no clips and no wrapping in front of the mirror. You put it on like any other dress and you are ready to go. Here is how it works, a few ways to style it, and how to keep it looking its best.

How a built-in scarf works

The scarf is attached at the neckline, so it stays in place all day. It drapes over the head and shoulders and falls over the top of the dress, giving full coverage in one piece. Because nothing needs pinning, getting dressed takes seconds: handy on busy mornings, on trips, or when you are getting children ready as well as yourself.

All our women’s dresses with a built-in scarf are maxi length (150 cm), come in one size that fits S to XL, and are made in Uzbekistan. The main difference is the fabric:

• Cotton with stretch (80% cotton, 20% elastane): the Green Modest Maxi Dress, with red and purple florals, and the Brown Modest Maxi Dress. Soft, breathable and easy to move in. €86.
• Cotton and viscose (80% cotton, 20% viscose): two floral maxi dresses, one with orange and white florals and lace-trimmed cuffs, and one in soft pink and purple. A gentle drape. €80.
• 100% Lyocell: the Elegant Maroon Floral Dress, lightweight and shiny, with wide lace-trimmed sleeves. €86.
• For girls, 100% cotton: our Cotton Floral Girls Dresses in Midnight Black, Cherry Red and Forest Green, sizes 7–9 and 10–12 years, with gathered elastic cuffs that keep the sleeves in place while she plays. €45.

Ways to style it

Keep it simple for every day

The dress is a complete outfit, so keep the rest light: white trainers or flat ankle boots, and a cotton tote bag for the day.

Layer a chapan on top

Dress it up for family occasions

For family dinners and celebrations, choose the maroon Lyocell dress with its lace-trimmed sleeves, or one of the floral prints, and add a structured bag or simple jewellery.

Getting the fit right

The women’s dresses are cut in one standard size for S to XL, with a relaxed, flowing shape, so the fit mostly comes down to length. At 150 cm they are true maxi dresses: compare with a long dress you already own and check the size guide on the product page. For girls, choose by age and check the girls’ size guide, which lists measurements in cm for each age group.

Caring for your dress

• Wash it before you wear it for the first time.
• Wash at 30°C, inside out, with similar colours.
• Don’t bleach, soak, tumble dry or dry clean it.
• Iron on low heat, inside out.
